Why Book a UK Walking Holiday?

A walking break is a truly excellent way to explore the United Kingdom and one that will provide as big a challenge and as much reward as you could hope to find anywhere. With our range of walking holidays in England and the neighbouring Home Nations, you can sample exceptional walking throughout the British Isles. There’s great walking from the Highlands and islands of Scotland to the dramatic Cornish peninsula. Our walking holidays in Britain explore the fells of the Lake District and dales of Yorkshire, while others tackle the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and beautiful national parks from the Peak District to Snowdonia. Get a real sense of achievement from completing long-distance walks and pilgrimage routes, such as the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail or The Cotswold Way.

On other walking holidays in the UK explore the country’s magnificent and varied coastlines, from Northumberland to Norfolk, and Dorset to the South Downs. Offshore, discover the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands, where the small but exciting islands of Guernsey and Jersey provide a real escape.

Basic Fitness

All our walking holidays require a reasonable level of basic fitness. If an hour’s stroll on the flat is about your limit, it’s important to bear in mind that the terrain in England may be steep and the local tracks rough, adding to the demands of the day. Equally, none of our walks are so demanding that they require anything more than a good pair of walking shoes, a bottle of water and a desire to step out at a modest pace, though walking with poles is recommended for those who require extra stability. We make regular stops along the way to rest, take in the view and discuss the astonishing surroundings. Full days are always broken with a leisurely (and delicious!) lunch. Finally, please bear in mind that the advertised routes may have to be altered to take into account local weather and trail conditions, and that the decision on whether to run the walks rests with our guide, who has extensive local knowledge and experience.
